clear counters interface-type number


Syntax Description:

interface-type

Type of interface to be configured

number

This represents a port, connector, or interface card number. On a Cisco 4000 series router, it specifies the NPM number. The numbers are assigned at the factory at the time of installation or when added to a system, and can be displayed with the show interfaces command.

 


Command Description:

 

Many steps occur during the processing of a packet, and tests are performed at each step. The outcome of each step is recorded in an interface counter. Network administrators can analyze these interface counters to determine the reasons for sluggish router and network performance. This command is used to set all the counters of the specified interfaces to zero.


Example:

 

The following command resets all the counters of the ethernet 0 interface to zero. 

Router#clear counters ethernet 0
