Syntax:

timers bgp keepalive holdtime
no timers bgp

 

Syntax Description:

keepalive Frequency (in seconds) with which the Cisco IOS software sends keepalive messages to its peer. The default is 60 seconds.
holdtime Interval (in seconds) after not receiving a keepalive message that the software declares a peer dead. The default is 180 seconds.

 

Command Description:

To adjust BGP network timers, use the timers bgp command in router configuration mode. To reset the BGP timing defaults, use the no form of this command.

Defaults:

keepalive: 60 seconds

holdtime: 180 seconds


Example:

The following example changes the keepalive timer to 70 seconds and the hold-time timer to 210 seconds:

Router(config-router)#timers bgp 70 210
