Syntax:

ping [protocol] {ip-address | hostname}

Syntax Description:

This command has no arguments or keywords.

Command Description:

Use the ping (packet internet groper) privileged EXEC command to diagnose basic network connectivity on Apollo, AppleTalk, Connectionless Network Service (CLNS), DECnet, IP, Novell IPX, VINES, or XNS networks. The optional protocol argument can be any of the following: apollo, appletalk, clns, decnet, ip, ipx, vines, or xns. To perform an extended ping, enter the ping command with no arguments.
